Dine Under the Moon at Kaibo
Once a month Kaibo restaurant puts on a special event around the full moon. On the Friday nearest to the full moon you can indulge in a 10 Course Dinner served on their beachfront as a part of their Luna Del Mar celebration.
The next full moon, The Cold Moon, will be celebrated on Friday, December 13th, and Kaibo is ready to delight once again. The Wolf, Snow & Worm moons will be welcomed in January, February & March respectively with specially crafted dishes, drinks and as always toes in the sand dining. This is an experience worth the trek!
Located on the North End of the island, about an hour drive from the condos (depending on traffic), Kaibo is a great little getaway. It’s remote, and has a distinct North Side vibe that’s laid back while also lush. If you want to make an evening of it you can drive or you can expand the experience with a boat ride directly to and from the restaurant.
It’s easy to catch a water taxi from Camana Bay to Kaibo and back, and at CI $12.50 a ticket it’s extremely affordable. (Pro tip: Arrive at Camana Bay early and indulge in a happy hour drink at one of the resident bars & restaurants.)
The water taxi typically departs at 6:00 pm from Camana Bay and then back to Camana Bay from Kaibo at 10:00 pm. The boat will take you across the North Sound helping you avoid evening roadway traffic and adding the bonus of being on the water. Depending on the time of year, you may also catch a Cayman sunset on the ride over.
The water taxi takes about half an hour to get across the sound, so this leaves about 3 hours for your 10 course dinner. The dinner itself is served family style for all at the table to share. It’s a lovely opportunity to connect with friends and loved ones over delicious food and drinks. Take your time and soak it up!
If you finish early it’s nice to sit in the adirondak chairs perched on the edge of the beach. On a clear night, you can admire the stars above the sound. Since Kaibo is on the North Side there is very little light pollution, and star gazing is quite a treat. It’s also possible to walk to Starfish Point from the restaurant, which is something you could do before your dinner if you’d like to add this attraction to your evening plans. (This is best to do while there is still natural light in the sky so you can search for starfish from the shore.)
Luna Del Mar is the perfect opportunity to dine al fresco on Kaibo’s beachfront. Make it a date night, a big family affair or even treat yourself to a solo experience (self love at its finest!). No matter how you choose to go, trust us, you’ll have a wonderful time. Reservations are required, so call ahead and make it night to remember.
